FROM baby opera to giant robots, there’s something for everyone at Festival Oldham this weekend.

The borough’s annual celebration of art and entertainment will take place tomorrow and Sunday from noon-4pm in the town centre.

This year’s activities include street theatre shows, carnival music and brass bands — all celebrating Oldham’s proud past and bright future.

Youngsters can get creative in a space-age arts zone on Saturday with giant cartoon drawing, balloon modelling and storytelling.

Street theatre includes Titan the giant robot who will also be in town — alongside some extra speedy Victorian time travellers and the Granny Turismo ladies on supercharged shopping trolleys.

Baby Opera will allow tots aged six to 18 months to use touch, texture, sight and sound to capture their imagination and kickstart a love of music at The Lyceum in Union Street at 11am, noon and 2pm.

On Sunday, little ones can have more fun making space-themed crafts before joining the colourful carnival band for the children’s art parade at 3pm.

There will also be street theatre on offer with loony astronaut Major Mal Function, playful impersonators The Invisible Men and the other-worldly Calvos jugglers.

Colette Kelly, Oldham Council’s assistant executive director for neighbourhoods, said: “Festival Oldham promises to be a great event for all the family, with Oldham town centre full of shoppers being entertained over the bank holiday weekend.”

All activities are free with events focused around the inflatable arts zone outside Spindles.
