£104,000 safety zone slammed

A PARISH councillor has hit out at the six-figure cost of a road safety scheme at Delph Primary School.
Councillor Ken Hulme, deputy chairman of Saddleworth Parish Council, has called for a full investigation into the £104,238 project.
He argues that a simple 20mph scheme and pelican crossing would have done the job effectively.
Councillor Hulme said: “Instead of a straightforward safety zone, which is what most parents and residents wanted, we have had this hugely expensive scheme foisted upon us which many people believe has made Denshaw Road outside the school less safe for our children.
“Questions need to be asked so that a shambles like this is never repeated.
“This is an appalling waste of money at a time when councils should be watching every penny they spend.”
The figures were revealed after a Freedom of Information request.
