Body found in gutted building
Date published: 27 May 2011
THE body of a man has been found inside the three-storey building in Rochdale destroyed by fire on Wednesday night.
He was one of five people inside Sartex mill, on the Halfpenny Bridge Industrial Estate, Deeplish, when the blaze broke out that evening.
Four workers ran out as fire crews from Oldham and Chadderton joined 45 firefighters from across Greater Manchester tackling the blaze at the bedding and textile company. They were told someone was trapped inside.
The firefighters, as well as two aerial appliances, worked throughout the night and into yesterday morning to extinguish the blaze.
An investigation by the fire service and Health and Safety Executive continues — but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death.
