Roll up for a truck festival

Date published: 30 May 2011

Vintage private and commercial cars, vans, buses and lorries will converge on a moorland pub next month in a unique gathering of truck fans.

The Trans Pennine Transport Group has been holding annual get-togethers at the Carriage House on the A62 near Marsden for a decade, and 25 years in all — attracting diehard fans and extraordinary vehicles each year. Restoration groups and individual owners from 30 miles around gather at the pub.

“We call it our ‘bring your vehicle’ night, and we get some amazing things some years. We had a full tank transporter — with tank — one time.

“The owner drove the tank, which had one of those big bulldozer scrapers on the front, round the car park at one point,” said local group member Tony Whalley.

“We get people from all over the region. They bring old cars, old lorries, buses, all kinds of vehicles,” said Tony.

“We had about 300 people at the pub and there were vehicles parked up and down the road. Owners meet up, talk and discuss trips and restoration, and it’s a great chance for fans of old vehicles to see them close up.”

The gathering starts at the (otherwise closed for the day) pub on Tuesday, June 21 from around 6.30pm, until the gathering breaks up after darkness falls.
