MORE than 100 people turned up to answer a rallying call from Crompton Bowling Club.
The Glebe Street club, which is desperate to increase its membership and attract sponsors, held a fundraiser to raise awareness of the group.
And the event was boosted with raffle prizes of a mountain bike and a halogen grill, donated by Warburtons and JD Williams respectively.
Bob Horrocks, club secretary of 13 years and a member for 45 years, said: “It went really well — we had hoped a few more might come down but people don’t seem to have the money these days. We have a few new members but we are still looking for more.
“The members are keeping us going but we are constantly on a knife edge.”
The club, which once had 250 members, has a loan of £9,500 which it is slowly managing to pay off.
If anyone would like to become a member or sponsor or wants details on hiring a function room, contact Bob Horrocks on 07972-206 461.
