Tie a ribbon ... save a life

MOTORISTS are being urged to display the drive-safe message by tying a black ribbon around their car aerial.
The poignant black bands symbolise the start of the Every Life Matters awareness week which gets under way on Sunday, June 19.
The campaign was created to emphasise the plight of careless driving following the tragic death of Chris Dale in June, 2009. He was only 15.
Chris, from Bramble Avenue, Moorside, was killed by a young driver as he crossed Lees Road in Salem, near the junction with Wellyhole Street.
Campaign ambassadors will hand out the ribbons in Oldham town centre on June 19, and in Albion Street on Monday, June 20.
Wristbands and T-shirts will also be available to buy to raise cash for campaign funds.
Over the past two years, Chris’s sister Becca Dale has helped establish the project.
Becca (18) said: “The campaign has achieved a lot over the past two years, including the installation of two speed cameras in Lees Road and the creation of the Split Second drama production with Oldham Theatre Workshop.
“The awareness week was set up because we wanted to mark two years of the campaign and push home the message about the dangers of careless driving.”
