THE Mayor of Wexford, Joe Ryan, right is being presented with a watercolour of Oldham Parish Church by Fred Jones, chairman of Oldham Choral Society — continuing the choir’s mission of “making Oldham known”
MEMBERS of Oldham Choral Society were in fine voice when they enjoyed a trip to Ireland.
More than 100 of the singers were delighted to perform Mendelssohn’s Elijah at the new opera house in Wexford, as well as at the Mass at Waterford Cathedral.
Chairman Fred Jones said: “We had been going to Ireland two or three years when we were invited to celebrate an anniversary with Waterford Brass. It was so good that our conductor decided we would go again and it really was an excellent trip.”
Now the singers are looking forward to a busy schedule, as they are travelling to the south of France at the end of August to sing in the St Gauderic Music Festival.
Following that they will be going to New York to sing in a memorial concert for 9/11.
Choir members are busily preparing for their next concert — a performance of Gilbert & Sullivan’s works, Iolanthe, and Pirates of Penzance at the Middleton Arena on Sunday. For tickets, telephone 0844-855 4020.
