Plumber Andrew Long is heading for Las Vegas, his prize for hitting a hole-in-one on a stag party golf trip.

Andrew (29), a member of Saddleworth Golf Club, struck the shot of a lifetime on the jaunt to the Algarve to celebrate the wedding of his friend Ted Taylor.

But his prize of an all-expenses paid trip to Vegas could be just the start. If Andrew repeats the feat on a golf course in the gambling capital he would walk away with a cool million dollars.

Andrew used a nine iron at the 136-yard seventh hole in a competition that cost 10 euros to enter at the stunning Vale do Lobo Royal golf course.

“I’ve tried the challenge a few times and not even hit the green, so I was expecting to maybe win a few golf balls,” he admits.

“The ball landed behind the hole and then rolled back.

“My mates went mad and I couldn’t believe it, it was the first hole in one I have ever had — and I really chose the right hole to do it on.”

The five-day trip to Vegas next year includes three rounds of golf with the chance of $1 million for a hole-in-one.

Andrew, who lives in Uppermill, has been playing golf since he was 10 and is down to a handicap of four.

He said: “I can’t see me doing it again but it is worth a go. A million dollars would be amazing.

“The stag do was brilliant, I hit the shot for the hole-in-one on the first round but ended up playing rubbish for the rest of the week.”

Hoping to get in some practise for the big challenge, Andrew is heading back to Portugal — and to ponder over who to take with him on the Vegas trip.
