WELCOME on board . . . chair of the volunteers committee Phil Marsh, second from left, with Oldham Academy North vice principal Martin Knowles, Demi Burrows and Ifrahim Anis.
A FUN-packed day of song, dance and drama awaits visitors to the 2011 Oldham Carnival.
The annual event, which takes place in Alexandra Park on Sunday June 26, will feature a colourful parade inside the park, a host of performances and activities for all the family.
This year’s attractions include a spectacular It’s A Knockout competition, which already has 24 teams signed up for action.
There will also be face painting, water walking and games for kids as well as belly dancing and zumba displays for all ages.
New sponsors, Oldham Academy North, are backing the Community Stage which will run from noon to 9pm, featuring stints from singers Ryan Brogan, January and 3 Flow as well as performances from the Act One Theatre Group and the Indian Dance Association.
Because there is no street parade, visitors can leave their cars on the roads surrounding the park and on Snipe Clough for free.
The event organisers are still recruiting volunteers to help out with this year’s event. Anyone interested can visit www.oldhamcarnival.org.uk or call 0161-284 3826.
