POLICE patrols have been urgraded across Failsworth and Limeside after four men looking for cannabis plants threatened residents in their own homes.
The gang has forced its way into properties nine times since January, stealing cash and valuables when no drugs are found.
One of the thugs is described as white, aged 18 to 21, 5ft 5in tall and of stocky build, dressed in black. His face was partially covered with a mask or scarf, he carried a pickaxe and spoke with a local accent.
The other men wore dark clothing.
Inspector Muzemil Kernain, from Failsworth and Hollinwood Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “These men believe that cannabis is being grown in the area and have targeted homes where they think it is being cultivated.
“Residents have been left shocked by these incidents and we are determined to catch those responsible.
“I would urge anyone who may have seen something suspicious to contact us. There is an increased police presence in the area and I would ask the community to help us identify those people behind this crime and help us arrest those responsible.
“I would remind those who are growing cannabis that they are breaking the law. We will catch them and bring them to justice.”
Anyone with information should call police on 0161-856 8914.
