A WOMAN was rescued from a Shaw quarry after getting into a perilous position 70ft up.
Walkers alerted fire-fighters after spotting the 55-year-old local woman walking across the cliff face at Buckstones Quarry, off Buckstones Road, at 10.30am on Friday.
They used ropes to help the woman to safety where she was checked over by an ambulance crew.
Oldham fire station watch commander Mark Beswick said: “The woman was making her way across the cliff face and we assisted her off.
“She had minor injuries of scratches but was obviously distressed. She didn’t want to go to hospital. We could not ascertain why she had gone that way. “
He added: “People should be careful out walking and stick to the paths.”
Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was also called to the scene but was not used.
