OLDHAM Hulme Grammar School pupil Nicola McConnell has been crowned Miss Manchester
BRAINS as well as beauty has seen Oldham Hulme Grammar student crowned Miss Manchester 2011.
Nicola McConnell (18) donned the winning tiara and sash after being judged top beauty at the fiercely-fought contest held in Alderley Edge.
Nicola, currently sitting A-Levels in biology, chemistry and psychology, hopes to go to Manchester University in September. That could all be on hold if she makes it through the national Miss England finals to compete in this year’s Miss World pageant in London this November.
Nicola, from Bamford, said: “I’ve never done anything like this and I only entered the competition a month ago on a whim because my auntie kept telling me to do it.”
Nicola had planned to spend the next few years with her head buried books studying to be a doctor and psychiatrist.
But if she wins the Miss England competition on July 18 in Birmingham, it could lead to a place in the ultimate beauty contest, Miss World.
She said: “My main goal is to become a doctor and then a psychiatrist, but if I won Miss World I’m sure I could postpone my plans for a year.
