Stolen tanker haul
Date published: 21 June 2011
POLICE found a milk tanker worth £35,000 — stolen in Cumbria — on land in Royton.
They also discovered other stolen items on the land off Meek Street after a tracker device attached to the tanker led them to the haul.
The stainless-steel tanker was reported stolen from haulage firm NT Whitefield Transport in Stockton-on-Tees after thieves attached it to a lorry cab.
The company transports milk to Spain, bringing back orange juice on the return journey.
When police in Oldham responded to the tracker signal they also found the front of a HGV unit that had been stolen from agricultural suppliers Wynnstay Group in Shrewsbury in January. They believe this was used to transport the tanker.
A Hiab vehicle — a lorry with a crane attached — taken from Poulten-le-Fylde, Lancashire, was also recovered, while shipping containers on the land were found to have what’s believed to be counterfeit Vodka inside, with enough crates to fill a van. The engine of a Range Rover stolen in Wigan was also recovered.
A 41-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both from Shaw, have been arrested on suspicion of theft and handling stolen goods. They were bailed while investigations continue.
