A LEADING academic gave the seal of approval to Oldham’s Sixth-Form College’s new regional science centre.
Prof Marcus du Sautoy, from Oxford University, toured the King Street building which opened on June 13 before giving a talk to more than 150 students and guests.
They included representatives from the British Science Association and the Museum of Science and Industry.
Prof du Sautoy holds the Charles Simonyi chair in the public understanding of science at Oxford University.
He is an author, writes for national newspapers and has presented Mindgames, Music of the Primes and The Story of Maths on BBC television. He has just finished filming his new BBC series The Code.
Oldham Sixth-Form College principal Jayne Clarke said: “We were delighted to welcome such an eminent guest speaker to the new centre, and hope that this is the first of many such visits.
“The fact that this unique new facility is already arousing interest in the country’s leading universities can only be good news for the borough and all the students studying here.
“Prof du Sautoy’s presentation was fascinating, engaging and very inspiring. We could not have wished for a better end to our first week in the Centre.”
