A new Oldham town centre boxing gym has received support from world champion Amir Khan.
The super-lightweight champion is backing the Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre which is due to open at Victoria House in Greaves Street, later this year
He said: “Since opening my gym and community centre in Bolton it has had positive impact on the area.
“I am sure this project that the people at Oldham Boxing and Personal Development Centre are planning will do likewise.
“The boxing skills children and youngsters will acquire from using the new facilities will not only keep them fit but also teach them discipline and self-confidence which they will need.”
Khan spoke out because he was unable to join former champion Ricky Hatton at the Victoria House launch event last week due to training in the USA for his planned fight against Zab Judah. There will be a fund-raising boxing show for Victoria House at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on Friday, July 8.
