Peter pays the price for son’s cricket smasher
PETER Price has always encouraged his son Charlie to be a smashing lad.
But the 14-year-old took it a bit too literally while batting for Saddleworth and District Cricket League side Moorside ‘A’ under-15s.
On his way to 27 runs in the win over Austerlands, Charlie lobbed a six into the car park — and straight through the windscreen of Peter’s Honda Civic.
“Of all the vehicles, it had to hit mine didn’t it,” said Peter.
“In a way it is probably a good thing that it did, because otherwise Charlie would have been embarrassed — he couldn’t stop laughing when he realised it was my car!
“I knew it had happened when the six went over because we all heard the smash, but I couldn’t bring myself to look for a while.
“At least it didn’t hit the bonnet. That probably would have been more expensive.
“As it turns out I only had to pay £65 to fix the damage.”
Despite the small dent in his bank balance, Peter is delighted to see Charlie performing so well at the crease.
He added: “He is in good form at the moment and he seems to be enjoying his cricket. The 27 he got against Saddleworth was good and in the next game he got 50 against Uppermill, which is the maximum you can score before you have to retire from the match.
“Unfortunately, the game was abandoned due to heavy rain, so the half-century might not be added to his season average.
“Hopefully he can keep up the good work and avoid any more mishaps!”
