THE pile of rubbish dumped in Edward Street, Werneth.
£1,000 fine for dumped waste
THESE bags full of rubbish cost an Oldham businessman almost £1,000 after he dumped them in Werneth.
An Environmental Health officer spotted trade waste in the back yard of a house on Edward Street in August.
An investigation traced the waste to Manchester Car Wash on Manchester Road, Oldham, owned by Mohammed Junaid.
Junaid (20) claimed that he had put the bags of rubbish in his van to dispose of them but a friend had borrowed his vehicle while he moved house.
The friend had emptied the bin liners, but when he went back to remove them the yard had been secured and he could not get in to remove them.
Junaid, of Oxford Street, Werneth, failed to arrange removal of the bags from the address, and appeared at Oldham Magistrates Court this week.
He pleaded guilty to failing in his duty of care to ensure waste was disposed of correctly, and was fined £350 with £620 costs.
Councillor Jean Stretton, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “Dumped waste can have a very negative impact on an area and I can assure residents that Oldham Council does all that it can to deal with this problem.
“The Council is committed to keeping our streets free of rubbish and we will take action against people who fail to take responsibility for their actions and clear up after themselves.”
