Proud presentation... Tracy Chamberlain hands over the first ever Alan Chamberlain trophy to Dobcross Youth Band director James Garlick
IT WAS an emotional day for Dobcross Youth Band as they became the inaugural Alan Chamberlain trophy winners after a triumphant Whit Friday.
The new award was given at the Greenfield contest this year, to pay tribute to the dad of five who was killed when he collided with a coach at the 2010 event.
Alan’s wife Tracy, surrounded by family, made a trip to the band’s clubhouse to proudly present the cup to musical director James Garlick and the young players.
It was an extra-special moment for all, with several of Alan’s family having played with the band in the past, including son James.
Band secretary Jenny Wood said: “What happened was shocking and it touched us all as we have known the family for a while.
“We’re delighted that our name is the first one on the trophy and we’ll be back trying to win it again next year.”
Not only did the band come first in the youth section at Greenfield, they scooped four other first prizes as well as various solo awards.
They treated the Chamberlain family to the best of brass with a rendition of their winning tune from Friday and played a hymn as a mark of remembrance for Alan.
