Boost as Coliseum joins Pride awards
Date published: 24 June 2011
THE tenth anniversary Pride in Oldham Awards have received a welcome financial boost with the confirmation of two more sponsors — both of which have done a great deal to put pride into the region.
The first is Oldham Coliseum, this year celebrating the 125th year of entertainment in the town, who will join the ranks of sponsors for the first time.
And the second is brewers JW Lees, who have been with the Pride in Oldham awards since 2004 and have now confirmed their wish to continue their backing.
Oldham Coliseum Artistic Director Kevin Shaw said: “The Coliseum and the Chronicle has always had a special relationship and we are delighted to be able to support the Pride awards in what is a very special year for both the theatre and the awards.
“We will be looking to raise the awareness and the profile of the Coliseum to attract even more people to the many areas of theatre and art that we are involved in — especially in the period when the theatre itself is closed for refurbishment throughout 2012.
And Williams Lees-Jones, managing director of JW Lees added: “The Pride in Oldham awards have proved an excellent way of honouring the people who really do make the extra effort to make Oldham a better place and we are proud of our association in this anniversary year.”
Chronicle Editor David Whaley welcomed the investment by all the Pride in Oldham sponsors and said: “We already have a team working towards the gala dinner in December which we hope will be the best yet — and that will be some achievement because the other nine have been superbly entertaining and emotional events.
“All we now need is our readers to get nominating members of their communities who go the extra mile for the borough and its people and are worthy of awards.”
