Jewels capture Jaynie’s spirit

THE spirit of one of Oldham’s most inspirational women is being kept alive by her family and friends.
Jaynie Huxley died from cancer at Dr Kershaw’s Hospice last year, two days before her 47th birthday.
She fought a brave nine-year battle against breast cancer, and bared her deepest feelings when she published a book of poems written to help her cope with her ordeal.
Under the title of “Let the Swearing Begin – Expressions of a 9-Year Cancer Journey,” the book was sold to raise money for Oldham Cancer Support Centre.
And now her family have joined forces with jeweller Carole Shoel to create the “Jaynie necklace” to raise money for Dr Kershaw’s Hospice.
Jaynie was a big fan of the clothes and jewellery sold by mother-of-three Carole (46), from her shop, Bohemian Rose Studio, in Kinders Lane, Greenfield.
And Carole used her knowledge of Jaynie’s taste to make the necklace from deep aqua foiled glass and a vintage style black metal chain.
Carole said: “Jaynie loved those colours, and when I made one and showed it to Bev (Jaynie’s friend) and her family they said she would have loved it.
“The necklace is colourful, extraordinary and beautiful, just like Jaynie, it reflects her personality and love of life, and we hope it will bring joy and inspiration to everyone who wears it.”
Jaynie’s mother, Eunice, and sister, Carol Liddy, were the first to buy the necklaces when they were launched.
Mrs Liddy said: “I think they are wonderful, I’m so proud and it’s such a tribute to Jaynie.
“I feel strongly about Dr Kershaw’s, it was where Jaynie died and everyone there was lovely and so kind to me.
“It was such a lovely place for Jaynie to spend the last week of her life, she said she felt safe there.”
Bohemian Rose is in the process of closing, but Carole will continue to make jewellery from her Greenfield home.
Jaynie’s necklace costs £20, and £5 from each will go to the hospice.
“We already have a few orders, and even if we only sell 100 it will raise a lot of money for the hospice,” said Carol.
