Local Euro-MP Paul Nuttall will be lobbying MPs in the House of Commons tomorrow to save North-West pubs and clubs.

The MEP has been heavily involved with UKIP’s ‘Save the Pub’ campaign since it began.

He is travelling to the capital to join with others desperate to stop more such closures.

He said: “The rate of pub closures has slowed from 40 a week at its peak to 25 but that means thousands of jobs are still being lost.

“And figures from the British Beer and Pub Association show that the closure rates were highest in the North-West and London.

“As well as the lost jobs the closures are destroying the fabric of community life.

“They provide a valuable meeting place and inject an average of £80,000 a year into their local economy. Beer sold through pubs also generates more funding for the public purse than beer sold through the off-trade.”

Mr Nuttall, who is UKIP’s deputy leader, has recently produced a report entitled “Last Orders? The decline of the Great British pub”.

One of his recommendations is establishing a Royal Commission to investigate the pub industry.
