Police halt park ‘party’ plan

YOUNGSTERS’ plans for a booze-fuelled trip to Tandle Hill Park were halted after Oldham police heard of their plans.
An invite was sent to over 1,600 facebook users to the “camping” event on Saturday evening, and by Friday 408 people had said they would be attending.
Facebook guests commented on the page wall, saying “no one or no force will be able to kill this off”.
But Royton and Shaw police had already been alerted and were patrolling the area.
Insp Karen Taylor said: “As a result of our operation, which is a continuation of our good work at Royton Park, we had officers patrolling and they were able to disperse a few large groups of young people that did turn up.
“These children were well-behaved, not the usual gangs that turn up to events like this. No event went ahead.”
