2012 Olympic mascot Wenlock with pupils at Coppice Primary School
CREATIVE kids at Coppice Primary School weren’t disappointed with their prize in an art competition.
Olympic mascot Wenlock made the trip up from his London home to be with Year 5 and 6 during their school sports day.
The children were picked as winners of a contest to give the mascot a makeover for the 2012 games.
Pupils included an umbrella to represent Oldham weather and a miner’s lamp, after discovering the school was built on an old mine.
They also used religious symbols to represent the town’s diverse heritage, wellies because of the countryside, a cotton mill chimney to represent the town’s history and a big drum for Saddleworth’s band contests.
Diving silver medallist Leon Taylor was one of the judges and was highly impressed with their design.
