OLDHAM councillor Derek Heffernan is calling on Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg’s help in bringing the News of the World to justice.
In a letter to the high-profile politician he pledges his support to his constituent Graham Foulkes, father of 7/7 bombing victim David, after it emerged his phone may have been hacked in the wake of the terror attack.
Councillor Heffernan said: “I feel that much more pressure needs to be brought to bear in this case. An apology is simply not good enough.
“Mr Foulkes is right, Rupert Murdoch must be willing to face the families alone and without the back-up of paid muscle and answer for the monster that he has created.”
In the letter councillor Heffernan, who represents Saddleworth North, lambastes newspaper bosses and private detectives alleged to be involved in the scandal, arguing that it brings a whole new focus to their values.
