TOUGH economic times haven’t cancelled generous spirit in Saddleworth: fundraisers have toasted their best-ever year.
For the first time the Churches Together in Saddleworth group has managed to raise over £10,000 in a year for Christian Aid.
The cash was raised from April 2010 to 2011, with money from the Delph Whit Friday service, lent lunches, coffee mornings and quiz sales boosting the bumper £6,500 sum from door-to-door collections.
Special appeals at Christmas and at the time of natural disasters such as the Pakistan flood also helped to push the total to £10,123,37.
Fundraising co-ordinator Rosie Banham said: “We’ve been raising money for Christian Aid for a long while now and we’re thrilled to reach the landmark.”
