HELPFUL HOODIE... Kye Syed (3) enjoys the roundabout despite the rain showers.
WET weather failed to dampen the spirits of locals who turned out in their hundreds to take part in this year’s Hollinwood Together festival.
Families sought refuge undercover to escape heavy showers, but stayed faithful to the event, sheltering in the main marquee until the weather brightened and they could continue with the fun.
The festival, which took place on Sunday, is now in its fifth year, and succeeded in its aim to bring the Hollinwood community together for an afternoon of fun.
It was jointly organised by Contour Housing, Regenda Housing, and St Margaret’s/St Chad’s Church, with funding coming from both Contour and Regenda, the Extended Schools programme and Oldham Council.
Verity Mason, project officer for Regenda, said: “We had a really good turnout despite the bad weather, and it was a really good, successful day.”
Speaking from the festival ground at Limeside Park, she said: “There are a lot of people and agencies here, and lots of stalls and entertainment including live bands, singers, dancers and a DJ. It’s just a pity about the weather.”
The festival started with a morning celebratory service at St Margaret’s Church, followed by a procession through the streets of Hollinwood to Limeside Park, on First Avenue.
Local schools, churches, community groups and individuals carried flags and banners to represent their organisation.
The afternoon saw plenty of entertainment to keep families occupied, along with competitions, fairground rides, face painting and a tombola.
