Chamber tunes in to Revolution

REVOLUTION Radio hosted a Chamber of Commerce networking event at the studios on Oldham Edge — and what a fascinating evening.

I joined the Oldham members on a tour of the station — in the company of managing director John Evington and commercial director Danny Holbourne — which owner and well-known DJ Steve Penk took over three years ago.

Since then, listening figures have doubled and, in industry parlance, people are listening for longer — in Revolution’s case, an average of 10.5 hours per week.

Mr Holbourne presented an insight into the commercial radio industry and how the ownership and outlook has changed in the years since Manchester’s Piccadilly Radio burst on to the scene.

We also watched presenter Elliott Eastwick as he broadcast his primetime drive-home slot.

How the programme comes together, with a non-stop input from Mr Penk — who monitors the output from his home when he isn’t on site — was captivating.

There were a host of questions for Elliott and the two directors, all of which were answered with enthusiasm.

This was definitely one of the Chamber’s more proactive events with the venue providing a platform for a busy evening.
