Power cut thieves cash in
Date published: 13 July 2011
CRUEL thieves took advantage of a power cut to break in to shops including a charity store in Royton.
The Red Cross shop, Greggs, and Royton Barbers in the precinct were all targeted when power went off and shop alarms failed to sound between 4.30pm on Friday and 7am on Saturday.
Thieves made off with £200 in cash and damaged a safe, cash register and a door in the charity shop.
Offenders broke into the bakery and raided staff and admin areas but nothing appears to have been taken.
The rear doors of the barbers were forced open and the front of the shop was damaged.
Royton police are investigating CCTV footage of the incident. Anyone with information should contact the neighbourhood policing team on 0161 856 8983.
