Oldham’s Talking Newspaper, which delivers weekly audio reports from the Oldham Evening Chronicle to those who can’t read it for themselves, has received a £1,000 donation from Oldham Asian Business Association..
The association is winding up its affairs in the borough and was looking for ways to distribute its surplus cash.
The Talking Newspaper charity, supported by 50 volunteers and which sends weekly CDs to around 250 listeners, was top of the list.
Newspaper volunteer Janet Whitehead said: “We are delighted to receive this gift. We don’t receive any grant aid or sponsorship and don’t charge our listeners for the service.
“We are reliant on donations and this gift will allow us to buy more that 12months’ worth of CDs - we are very grateful.”
Anyone wanting to receive the Talking Newspaper should contact tel no 0161 624 7171 with their name, address and telephone number.
