Costly row over parking ticket

A MARKET trader is paying the price for losing his temper with a parking warden.

Abdul Momin (29) of Belmont Street, was convicted after a trial of assaulting Kirsty Whittleworth on Tommyfield Market in March

Rebecca Radcliffe, prosecuting, told Oldham magistrates how she had spotted a White Mercedes van parked between market stalls at 10.15am — which is against market policy.

Ms Whittleworth was printing out a parking ticket when she was confronted by ladies fashion seller Momin. He told her he was moving the van but she said the ticket had already been printed and put it on the windscreen.

The dad-of-three threw the ticket on the floor and asked her what her problem was before grabbing her arm and ripping the ticket dispenser out of her hand, which cut her.

Probation officer Lisa Smith told magistrates that Momin felt both parties were equally at fault. Defending, Richard Williamson, said he had provided four good character references for Momin, who is of previous good character.

Momin was ordered to complete a 12-month community order, to include 100 hours of unpaid work, pay £100 compensation to the warden and £625 costs.
