Robbers target homes in the sticks

HOMEOWNERS of rural retreats in Saddleworth are being urged to be extra vigilant after a sharp spike in burglaries.
The Saddleworth and Lees Neighbourhood Police Team have issued a warning to locals as robbers targeted remote properties.
Items such as laptops, televisions, computers and jewellery have all be on the wish list for burglars since June 23.
A spokesman for the team said: “In total there have been nine burglaries since this date, including three where entry was gained through insecurity at the premises.
“We would strongly advise people to double check that all your doors and windows are locked before you go to bed and even if you are relaxing in your property.”
Other burglaries have seen offenders breaking into properties and getting away with high-value vehicles from drives.
During the night last Friday, two Audi A4 cars were broken into and had their stereos stolen.
Uppermill Methodist Church has also been a target.
Report suspicious behaviour to Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050.
