HEAVY showers failed to rain on Failsworth Carnival Parade.
Downpours stopped in time for the start of Saturday’s colourful procession with was led off from Lord Lane playing fields by Oldham Band (Lees).
It featured carnival royalty in all their finery, dancers, majorettes and children from sports groups who collected money along the route.
There were also several floats including St John’s Church which had an “Alice in Wonderland” theme and Hope Methodist Rainbows who were dressed as cheergirls.
Among the young and old who turned out to watch the parade was 16-year-old Laura Ford-Westbrook who said: “It was shorter than last year but I thought it was good with the themed floats.”
The sun came out as the carnival weekend continued on Saturday with dance competitions, community stalls, Failsworth Brass Band, a funfair and the royalty crowning on the playing fields.
Then Sunday’s attractions included children’s entertainers, a bonny baby competition, It’s A Knock Out for Scouts and Guides and aninter-pub competition.
Oldham Community Radio also broadcast live from the carnival throughout the weekend.
The carnival and parade are estimated to have raised just over £4,000 for local good causes and treasurer Enid Bell said: “All in all we are pleased with the weekend.”
