Date published: 21 July 2011
A 28-YEAR-OLD woman from Bury who sparked a major police search after claiming a baby had been abandoned by the side of a road has been released without charge.
Police began the search after receiving a mobile phone call from the Failsworth area on May 10.
Officers feared a girl had given birth and left the baby near the Owd Betts pub on the Rochdale-Edenfield border.
Forensic tests carried out on a bloody bag and knitted blanket discovered at the scene confirmed it was human blood, but no girl or baby was found.
