Flood work to run for six weeks

ROAD closed... at Denshaw Road, Delph, as sewer work restarts
DRIVERS in Delph are being warned about road closures after flood relief work on sewers recommenced yesterday.
Denshaw Road will be closed from the junction with Delph Lane up to the junction with Eagle Court.
Drivers will have to wait six weeks until it reopens following the school summer holidays on September 4. United Utilities are in the process of upgrading the local sewer system to help prevent it from overflowing during heavy rainfall — providing vital flood protection for homes in the village.
It involves building an underground stormwater storage tank, connecting sewers in private land behind Delph Primary School and laying bigger sewers in Denshaw Road to help prevent the drainage network from overflowing.
Tess Smith, United Utilities project co-ordinator, said: “Sewer flooding is a horrible experience for anyone affected by it, which is why we are committed to tackling the problem.
“It’s a major investment for the village which will bring long-term quality of life improvements for local people.
“We recognise work of this nature can be disruptive, and are continuing to consult with residents as we go along and do everything possible to keep inconvenience to a minimum.”
She added that all diversions should be clearly signposted.
