School trips into the past
Date published: 27 July 2011
THERE was a step back in time for Limeside primary school as the school celebrated its 80th birthday.
Guests joined pupils in singing the hymn “All Things Are Thine” — originally sung at the official opening of the school in 1931.
School alumni returned — including Marjorie Prince who joined in 1931 at the age of four. She remembered her schooldays, describing many of the former teachers as she reminisced.
Oldham’s Mayor, Mayoress and Youth Mayor were among the guests, along with staff, parents, governors and community members.
Readings from the school log were given, recalling significant events from the past, including from October 3, 1941, the dramatic “School closed by order due to an air raid. Much damage has been done and many unexploded bombs are still in the vicinity.”
Younger children enjoyed a train ride on a miniature railway.
