Bring us sunshine – here come the bloomin’ judges!
Date published: 27 July 2011
OLDHAM is hoping to impress judges from North West in Bloom tomorrow as the borough bids to hold onto its crown.
Two judges will assess Oldham’s latest entry into the prestigious competition in which it last year scooped Best City — a category based on the size of the electoral roll.
Peter Wiseman and Brendan Cook will be taken on a three-hour tour to witness how the flower power of the ‘Bloom and Grow’ bid matches up to rival cities, towns and villages.
They will view eye-catching visual projects, such as the Past, Present and Future themed garden in Market Place, just outside the Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre.
The tour will also take in the creative garden at Cross Street Junction, off Huddersfield Road, while the giant Bucket and Spade — relocated to Mayfield School in Derker — also makes a return.
The judges will learn about the wide range of partners who have helped deliver different community elements of the campaign.
