Waste site to close in two months

Beal Hey recycling centre in Shaw is to close on October 1.
Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority has confirmed the site will be axed despite a fierce battle led by councillor Mark Alcock, who collected over 5,100 signatures to keep it running.
The closure is part of a cost-cutting measure involving three other sites in Greater Manchester, leaving one site at Arkwright Street to serve Oldham.
Since the decision was made, council officers had been looking into the potential of a new second site within Oldham.
A meeting on September 5 will see authority and council officers review potential sites, but even if one is identified, it could be two years before it opens.
