Musicians go down a storm in Paris
OLDHAM musicians enjoyed a six-day tour of Paris as they entertained French crowds.

Members of Oldham Music Centre, part of Oldham Council’s Integrated Youth Service, took in the sights and sounds of the historic city — and even performed in front of the iconic Sleeping Beauty castle at Disneyland Paris.

There were 99 students accompanied by 10 members of staff with the busy schedule including visits to the Cité des Sciences, Notre Dame Cathedral, Versailles, Montmartre, Sacre-Coeur and the Champs-Elysees.

Other highlights included a cruise on the Seine and two other performances in the Luxembourg Gardens and the American Cathedral.

Director of music for Oldham, Gerard Booth said: “Paris provided a thrilling experience for the young people.

“I would like to thank our generous sponsors who have contributed towards the cost of the tour. The three ensembles all played tremendously well and the musicians taking part gave us the flexibility to perform brass band, wind band and orchestral pieces. The behaviour was impeccable and our young people did Oldham proud.”

The centre previously undertook an overseas tour in 2008 when a group of nearly 100 musicians paid a visit to New York.
