AFFORDABLE new homes have been officially unveiled in Hathershaw.
Councillor David Hibbert, cabinet member for housing, transport and regeneration joined residential developer Countryside Properties at the launch of affordable housing development, The Triangle, in Copsterhill Road, Hathershaw.
The event marked the unveiling of the collection of three and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached homes, jointly funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and Countryside Properties.
Joined by members from Oldham Council and representatives from the Homes and Community Agency (HCA), the event marked the formation of a partnership between Countryside Properties and the council, which aims to boost the availability of high-quality and affordable homes in Oldham.
The first phase will see the construction of 92 homes at The Triangle, 30 of which will be available through social housing, funded by the HCA.
Owned and managed by Countryside Properties’ development partner, Great Places Housing Group, these homes will be available through affordable rent or shared ownership.
A further 62 houses will be available on the open market through Countryside Properties’ Shared Equity scheme.
Aiming to give first-time buyers a helping hand on to the property ladder, the initiative allows buyers to own 100 per cent of their property while paying for only 85 per cent.
For a three-bedroom home priced at full market value of £142,500, buyers need to find a 5 per cent deposit of £7,125 and a mortgage for £121,125.
Councillor Hibbert said: “I was involved in the original plans at an early stage about three years ago so it was a pleasure to be asked back to the launch.
“The homes are very impressive and are a boost to the area, which hopefully other developers will see.
“I’d like to see more schemes like this provided as it benefits not only the home-owners but also creates jobs in the construction industry and boosts the local economy.”
Ian Kelley, managing director of Countryside Properties’ Regeneration North Division, said: “The Triangle is a significant project in the contribution to Oldham’s regeneration, and one which Countryside Properties is proud to be a part.
“We hope that our partnership with Oldham Council will go a long way in the delivery of affordable, high-quality housing across Oldham.”
Stephen Porter, chief executive of Great Places Housing Group, said: “This is an exciting development for the people of Oldham and will provide much-needed affordable and quality family accommodation both for tenants and those wishing to realise the dream of owning their own home.”
