LIFE in a beehive can be explored at the Grassroots Project in Failsworth.
And anyone in Oldham can pop down to find out more not only about bees, but sustainable living through projects such as growing vegetables and fruit trees and keeping chickens.
Based off Marlborough Drive, Grassroots offers something for everyone of any age.
It is used as a stepping stone to employment for some as they learn new skills, and as an educational tool for schoolchildren.
A bee colony is the latest addition, and those charged with looking after it are eagerly awaiting their first harvest of honey. The project took delivery of around 6,000 bees which will pollinate plants on the land and produce honey for sale.
Community vocational worker June Cumming is learning beekeeping skills alongside experienced volunteer beekeeper Derek Clarke.
And she and some of her colleagues have joined Oldham Beekeeping Society to learn more.
She said: “The whole organisation of a beehive is fantastic, they all have their own jobs, and it’s something we can use to help educate children.”
Anyone who wants to take a closer look at the new bee colony, or get involved in the Grassroots project, can contact organisers on 07801-632 584.
