FROM the sultry beaches of east-coast Australia to the unpredictable windswept moors: a group of Aussie lifeguards have been put through their paces — Saddleworth-style!

Stars of TV series Bondi Rescue, who are on a UK tour, teamed up with Oldham Mountain Rescue team for a gruelling lifesaving mission.

The boys are more used to the stunning white sand and thrillseekers of Bondi Beach in Sydney. But a hair-raising test of a different kind was in store.

Venturing out to Wilderness Gulley on Saddleworth Moor, the team set up a cableway across the valley and stretchered the lifeguards across 200-yard wires as if they were casualties.

The taste of adventure was a new experience from the current taste of Britain the Bondi boys have had on the coast of Devon and Anglesey.

Oldham Mountain Rescue member Mick Nield said: “I think it was quite an eye-opener for them, they didn’t expect to be coming up here and doing this sort of thing.

“It was great, we swapped stories and talked about our different experiences.

“They were surprised to see the countryside and the surroundings after being in Manchester.”
