Night sleeping rough offers cold comfort

HARDY souls who braved freezing temperatures to sleep rough have raised a staggering £1,176 for homeless young people.
The group of nine volunteers from DePaul UK, Threshold, and Positive Steps Oldham bedded down for the night outside the Queen Elizabeth Hall in March to raise money for tenancy starter packs containing basic essentials such a pots and pans, kettles and light bulbs.
The packs will help young people who have previously been homeless and are moving into independent accommodation for the first time.
As well as raising vital funds, the Oldham Sponsored Sleep Out aimed to give a small insight into the realities of being homeless.
The volunteers only got about three hours sleep, which left them with an understanding of how miserable it would be to sleep rough night after night.
