A couple from Oldham have appeared in court charged with terrorist offences.

Mohammed Sajid Khan (32) and Shasta Khan (37) spoke only to confirm their names, ages and address at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court in central London on Friday.

Prosecutors allege that the couple gathered household items that could be used to make an improvised explosive device, and possessed extremist material.

The couple, of Foster Street, are accused of engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism.

The alleged offences are said to have taken place between August 10 last year and July 24 this year.

They are also each accused of three counts of possessing a record of information likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism.

The couple will appear at the Old Bailey on August 22.

Mr Khan was remanded in custody until that date.

Mrs Khan was also remanded in custody. A prosecution appeal against her being granted bail will be heard at the Old Bailey.
