QUICK-THINKING staff at Crompton Pool have been praised for potentially saving the life of a schoolgirl.

They sprang into action when 11-year-old Victoria Slater, from Moorside, suffered a seizure in the water.

The Crompton House pupil was taking part in an advanced swimming lesson when she was pulled out of the pool by lifeguard Paul Roberts.

Victoria was diagnosed with epilepsy around two years ago and her mum, Lisa Slater, said: “They had finished the lesson and were just having a bit of fun playing in the water.

“Victoria does know when she is going to have a seizure, she gets a feeling.

“She made it successfully to the side of the pool and tried to get out of the water. Her top half was out of the water and her legs were in the water.”

Mrs Slater told how the lifeguard, who is currently on holiday, got Victoria out of the pool.

He covered her with a towel and she added: “All the staff were really kind.

“They were very professional, quick, calm and extremely caring.”

Victoria was previously a member of the Crompton Classics swimming club.

She has not been deterred by the incident and is taking the top honours swimming badge this week.

“She is anxious but she will go back. She loves swimming,” added Mrs Slater.
