THE North-West’s largest independent pawnbroker and jeweller is set to expand its Oldham business.
Mays will move across town from Manchester Chambers to a bigger, 850sq ft store in Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre next month and will be recruiting new sales assistants.
Bosses say it underscores the jeweller’s lasting commitment to the borough, where it has had a retail outlet for some 80 years.
Its first store was on West Street, then Market Avenue, before moving to its current location more than 20 years ago.
Established in 1825, Mays also has stores in Manchester city centre, Ashton, Collyhurst and Salford.
Commercial director Nick Withington said: “Mays move to the Spindles centre is a major milestone in the company’s history.
“The vibrant new location for our Oldham store reflects Mays move into modern retailing and pawnbroking services.”
The Manchester Street store closes on August 30 and the new store opens on September 1.
