LATICS has a new commercial manager – and she is a lifelong fan.
Linguist Jenny Warburton, from Shaw, has been in and around Boundary Park for some time, working for one of chairman Simon Corney’s business interests.
That company, For My Sport, which offered an internet platform helping amateur teams raise funds — is relocating to London.
“Simon suggested I might fancy doing the commercial manager’s job so we sat down and after a chat here I am, ready to go,” said the 27-year-old.
Her ambition is to raise the profile of the club’s commercial offering — from match sponsorship and advertising to player sponsorship and other products — to help the club’s finances.
“For too long I believe there has been too much gossip about this club — there’s always seems to be talk of one crisis or another.
“I want us to get away from that and focus on the team — I really believe we are going to have a great squad this year — and let’s hear nothing but talk about football and how well the club is doing,” she adds.
It’s a tall order but the football fan, who has been watching the Latics since her dad took her along to Boundary Park as a youngster, is convinced that the business community and the fans will rally to a positive call. “I recognise that these are hard time economically for our business sponsors and the fans, but if we all pull together and all make a contribution that we can make a difference,” says Jenny.
Aside from setting herself targets to boost the Latics, Jenny is aiming to use her language skills - she has a languages (French and German) degree from Manchester University and a Masters from Salford — to set up an online translation service.
“I did try to get into the translation business when I left university, but wasn’t successful.
Of her new role she said: “It’s a great challenge and I’m looking forward to meeting sponsors and old a new and bringing new people into the club.”
