Woman found guilty of fraud
Date published: 10 August 2011
AN Oldham woman was one of four people who used false names to buy a company and sell goods they hadn’t paid for.
Asma Ahmed (36), of Windsor Road, was found guilty of fraud by false representation and was given an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years for her role in the plot. She will also have to undertake 150 hours of community service.
QV Stores Ltd specialised in pound shops during the mid 2000s with 50 shops across England. An investigation found that its owners, who bought the business in 2008, ran up debts of £1.5 million to creditors.
They had obtained terms of credit by relying on references in the previous owner’s name and had sold on stock to suppliers unknown to members of staff instead of restocking warehouses.
Mohammed Razzaq (43), from Rochdale, Tanweer Ahmed (42) from Altrincham and Mohammed Zia (49) from Rochdale were also found guilty of conspiracy to defraud and received jail sentences.
