Man jailed for attacking his mother
Date published: 11 August 2011
A MAN who assaulted his elderly mother when she refused to help him financially has been jailed.
A drunken Andrew Faulkner (48) lost control and elbowed his mother, who is in her late-60s, at her Oldham home. On one occasion he physically restrained her when she tried to call the police to report the assault.
The court heard that Faulkner’s wife had been living in Indonesia and he wanted enough money to fly out there and see her.
Faulkner, of Weston Avenue, New Moston, pleaded guilty to assaulting his mother in April, June and July of this year.
Oldham magistrates yesterday jailed Faulkner for 12 weeks.
Justine Whitworth, defending, said: “He wanted to go straight to Indonesia and try and stay with his wife. He can’t see any future in Oldham.”
