IT’S nappy ever after for expectant Grasscroft mum Rachel Power, whose commitment to ditch disposables and use real nappies has won her a “birth to potty” kit.

The £300 prize will keep her baby in nappies for three years.

Rachel won the prize in a prize draw, run by Recycle for Greater Manchester (R4GM), which says using real instead of disposable nappies saves mums on average £500 a baby, including washing costs.

The draw was held to mark Real Nappy Week 2011, and is part of the Real Nappies for Greater Manchester campaign.

Rachel said: “I went to the Nappuccino event to help save the planet, little did I realise I would save money too.”

The campaign aims to make parents and guardians aware of the alternatives to disposable nappies.

More than 164 million disposable nappies are thrown away in Greater Manchester every year: using real nappies can have a major impact on landfill.
