Benefit cheat back in court
Date published: 12 August 2011
A BENEFIT cheat appeared before Oldham Magistrates Court over claims she failed to comply with the community order she is serving.
Rebecca McGladdery (44), of Galland Street, Greenacres, was given a 12 month community order back in June, which included 60 hours unpaid work and the completion of a probation course.
Magistrates adjourned the case until next Tuesday due to lack of documentation.
McGladdery admitted fraudulently claiming benefits, while working between January, 2008, and April, 2009, to the cost of £6,413.
She made claims before last year’s General Election about Liberal Democrat candidate Elwyn Watkins paying staff £2.80 less than the minimum wage when she worked for the party in 2009.
An investigation into the claims were dropped by HM Revenue and Customs.
